Letters to the Editor Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us. Although space limitations don't allow us to print
all the letters we receive, we give them all careful consideration. Subject: Voters' view sometimes obstructs a city's First I wish to thank Howard Troxler for bringing attention to this horrible phenomenon. I live in Temple Terrace and am offended at what is going on. The city so far has wasted tens of millions of dollars, acquiring properties, and trying to persuade us citizens that this project is good for our community. They have purchased property for far more than it is worth, even property from a City Council member. They financed a failed campaign to sway voters to approve a tax increase. When $325 million is on the line, the potential for corruption is extreme. Our City mothers and fathers are going around threatening private property owners with the use of eminent domain. The pretty drawings of the planned redevelopment zone include private properties that have not as yet been acquired. Building permits previously approved, have been revoked. This makes it impossible for those citizens to develop, or sell, their property. As Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor said, "Any property may now be taken for the benefit of another private party, but the fallout from this decision will not be random. The beneficiaries are likely to be those citizens with disproportionate influence and power in the political process, including large corporations and development firms." Please keep you eye on our little community. Our mayor, and city council is dominated by little Napoleons that want to be Donald Trump Jrs.. Bart Siegel |
